Doctor of Philosophy in Rabbinical Studies

The Doctor of Philosophy in Rabbinical Studies (Ph.D./Rabbi) program will prepare graduates for careers in rabbinical posts, torah research, and torah education. Most importantly having a structured program to present the challenge of learning the in depth study needed to achieve this degree will inspire and motivate you to achieve a level of study and research that you would not achieve elsewhere. This program embodies and fosters the Southeastern Jewish University motto of Torah Lishma, Torah for its own sake, as no other program can. All the requirements for this program can be achieved though study abroad or in the United States at approved Yeshivot (academies) or through distance learning by entering in to the Shema Yisrael Shulchan Aruch Learning program at their highest level and passing their exams and final exams for Semicha (ordination).

Program Requirements

  • 20 Credits in the study of Shulchan Aruch Yore Deah Melichah
  • 20 Credits in the study of Shulchan Aruch Yore Deah Basar VeChalav
  • 20 Credits in the study of Shulchan Aruch Yore Deah Taaruvot
  • Pass comprehensive written and Oral Exams for each section of Shulchan Aruch
  • Doctoral Dissertation

  • Letter of recommendation from recognized rabbinical authority
